Our study aimed to evaluate the effects of group size and the laying month on egg quality and the impact of group size on corticosterone and IgG levels in goose eggs in Hungary. From January to February, we demonstrated a decrease in egg width, shell thickness, shell weight, yolk weight, yolk ratio, yolk diameter, yolk colour with fan, and b* and an increase in albumen ratio and yolk pH. Regarding group size, the albumen pH, IgG, and corticosterone levels were higher in the small groups.

Rabbit meat is popular in European and other countries. China is a major producer of rabbit meat; Laiwu black and Minxinan black rabbits are local black meat rabbit breeds used in China. In this study, Laiwu black rabbits, Minxinan black rabbits and Hyla commercial rabbits were selected for meat quality testing. The results illustrated that both Laiwu black and Minxinan black rabbits have certain advantages in terms of nutritional indicators while also having good meat colour and flavour.

Serum amyloid A (SAA), C-reactive protein (CRP), and some energy substrates were evaluated in 40 healthy dairy cows. Along lactation, SAA and CRP tended to increase, peaking at 240–300 d, and decrease thereafter. Along gestation, they increased in the first 4 months and then decreased. SAA and CRP were very variable and positively correlated with each other in both phases and with glucose during pregnancy, suggesting that they may play a role in physiological and non-pathological processes.

Dystocia in swine is a risky condition that causes stress and pain to sows and piglets. This study investigated factors affecting dystocia in induced farrowings, thereby providing more knowledge into this underestimated issue. Results showed that dystocia is common in swine; relative birth order, birth weight, and stillbirth were the most significant risk factors for dystocia. These data suggested that last one-third of farrowing process is most important stage to be supervised.

We investigated stress parameters and behaviours of goat kids from dairy type (Saanen and Maltese) and indigenous (Hair and Gokceada) breeds during 10-week fattening. Dairy kids did not express behavioural or biochemical stress responses during the study. Especially in the last 2 weeks of fattening, Gokceada kids were less successful in coping with a confined environment. It is concluded that indigenous breeds, especially Gokceada kids, are not appropriate for intensive fattening in a pen.

Our results contribute to the characterization of milk yield, composition and stomatic cell score of local Italian goat breeds (Garganica, Girgentana, Jonica, Maltese and Mediterranean Red) compared to a cosmopolitan (Saanen) goat breed. The dataset consists of 840 observations from 60 goats (10 does per breed) held under the same managerial conditions. The variability of milk yield and composition traits reported in the present study is of interest to preserve biodiversity of local goat breeds.

We utilized X-tremeGENE™ HP reagent from the Roche company in bovines, and one-third of total spermatozoa were transfected. Milk coagulation properties and major mineral contents in Pinzgauer dual-purpose cattle breed were characterized. The dataset consisted of 7763 milk observations from 851 cows reared in 60 herds in the Alpine area of Bolzano province (Italy). Our results showed that Pinzgauer breed produced milk with better coagulation properties and mineral content, from a technological point of view, in first than later parities and in early than late lactation.

Developmental changes in testicular parameters and their association with plasma triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), and testosterone in male Murrah buffaloes were determined. Plasma T4 and testosterone increased significantly with age. Plasma T4 levels were positively correlated with testicular parameters and plasma testosterone, whereas plasma T3 was not associated with either. This study demonstrated the developmental and steroidogenic effects of thyroid hormones on the testis.

Lipid-soluble antioxidants can be more effective for chick development when provided via in ovo (IO) injection than when supplemented to the maternal diet. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of egg weight and IO injection of α-tocopherol on chick development, hatching performance and lipid-soluble antioxidant concentrations in residual yolk sac and tissue of quail chick. IO α-tocopherol injection affected concentrations of tissue-specific lipid-soluble antioxidants in quail chicks.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the energy status of Holstein dairy cows during different stages of lactation by investigating the fatty acids in milk and rumen as well as serum biochemical parameters. We sampled 12 Holstein cows. Our main results show reduced saturated fatty acids and increased mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acids around day 30 of lactation, which indicates a negative energy balance. We suggest the possible use of milk fatty acids as indicative of energy status.

The influences of breed, sex and age on seasonal fluctuations in haematological variables (HVs) of goat kids were evaluated. Breed and age variations in HVs of goats were more pronounced during the hot-dry season. The seasonal fluctuations in HVs were more dramatic in kids of Sahel goats, and in younger and male kids of both breeds. Haematological changes induced by the cold-dry season were clearly distinct from those of hot-dry and rainy seasons.

The aim of the present study was to determine morphometric and meristic characteristics of two populations (wild and cultured) of Cichlasoma festae and to establish whether populations could be discriminated based on morphometric variability. Twenty-two morphometric and four meristic characters were used to test the hypothesis differentiation. The results suggested that the rearing system has influences and both groups were accurately separated by linear discriminant functions.

In present study, effects of peripheral administration of ghrelin antagonist [D-Lys3] GHRP-6 on chicken performance, thyroid hormone level and serum biochemical parameters were investigated. The results indicate that ghrelin antagonist [D-Lys3] GHRP-6 reduces feed intake and body weight. With regard to increase in T4 level, it can be inferred that [D-Lys3] GHRP-6 may increase metabolic rate, lipolysis and weight loss, which is similar to results obtained in mammalian species.

The changes found in mares' macromineral profiles over the peripartum provide enhanced knowledge about mineral interrelations and their modifications in mares.

Short summary
In some areas, the health and growth of sheep are impacted by severe winter weather. To cope with this problem, we explored the effects of dietary additions of different concentrations Caragana korshinskii (CK) aqueous extract on the antioxidant properties and immune performance of sheep under cold-stimulation conditions. The results showed that the sheep with diets supplemented with aqueous extracts of CK exhibited higher antioxidant and immune performance.
