Our study sought to investigate the impact of increasing doses of wood vinegar (WV) supplementation on nutrient utilization, metabolism, and nitrogen balance in sheep. These sheep were fed increasing doses of WV (0, 10, 20, 30, and 40 mL d^-1) while receiving high-concentrate diets. Our findings suggest that WV interferes with rumen function and improves protein metabolism in sheep.

This study explores the maternal genetic origins of four goat breeds from Türkiye – Damascus, Kilis, Hatay, and Kil – within the Fertile Crescent, a key region for goat domestication. By analysing mitochondrial DNA, Haplogroup A was dominant, but Haplogroups A and G were newly documented in Hatay goats, and there was novel identification of Haplogroup G in Damascus goats in Türkiye. These findings highlight the importance of conserving these breeds as vital genetic resources in a historically significant region.

With a digital documentation tool, individual treatment frequencies, repeated treatments and distributions of treatments over time were elaborated for treatment categories. Most of the individual treatments were administered in the fattening stable, followed closely by the rearing stable. Relations between on-farm treatments and lesions reported at slaughter were found when treatments were administered in the early or later life stage of the individuals.

This 3-year study analyzed the effect of a gene variation on growth and development in Morkaraman sheep, thereby establishing a link between genes and traits. The study revealed the impact of genetic variation on growth and provided a basis for breeding strategies. In-depth analysis of the placenta and cotyledons yielded insights into prenatal development. The results can inform genetic selection strategies and form the basis for further yield trait studies.

This study investigated the genetic diversity of Iranian Holstein cattle compared to populations from France, Poland, and Sweden. Using genomic data from 399 cattle and statistical analyses, the results revealed that the studied populations are genetically very similar, with no significant differences among them. The findings of this research can be useful for national breeding programs and planning the importation of genetic material.

Prostaglandins have a detrimental effect on embryo development during the early phase of in vitro culture. In this study, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) were supplemented in the in vitro culture medium to eliminate the negative effect of prostaglandins during in vitro embryo culture, and the effect of these NSAIDs on embryo development and quality was evaluated. Embryos were assessed on day 7 based on developmental stage, quality, apoptotic index, and developmental competence.

Our study on Marwari sheep reveals a manageable increase in inbreeding affecting growth traits over 4 decades. Strategic breeding is crucial for enhancing genetic diversity and optimizing livestock productivity, which is vital for rural livelihoods and food security. Our findings underscore the importance of managing inbreeding to maintain healthy, productive herds, ultimately supporting resilient rural economies and food security.
