Our study of 1104 Holstein Friesian and Jersey cows used polymerase chain reaction–restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) and Sanger sequencing for genotyping. We evaluate genotypic and allelic frequencies, population genetics, and phenotypic effects. Our findings offer more reliable interpretations at both phenotypic and genotypic levels.

The aim of the study was to use a digital system for the documentation of treatments and to investigate treatments, performance parameters and breeds. Farrowing-related treatments and high treatment indices of the sow related with an increase in stillborn piglets and high treatment indices of the sow resulted in fewer piglets born alive. Sows with parity of 1 had the highest treatment indices, which decreased over parities and increased for parity ≥8.

Tail tip inflammation is a well-known animal health and welfare problem in beef cattle, but data on tail tip necrosis in dairy cows are scarce. We examined the tail tips of 641 cows from five different herds to assess whether lesions occur in dairy cows, what type of lesions occur, and how common they are. We found different types of lesions and classified them into seven groups. Tail tip lesions were very common, suggesting that tail lesions in dairy cows require further investigation.

The length of the fore and rear udders, the angle of udder attachment, and the depth of the udder all had a significant impact on milk yield. Thus, evaluation of the udder and frame's exterior traits is crucial for milk production. In the case of calving ease, only the influence of muscularity was proven.

Research was carried out on 40 Holstein–Friesian cows. The cows were divided into two equal groups: control (C) and experimental (E). The diet of group E cows was supplemented with mineral and vitamin premixes. Premixes in group E influenced the biochemical parameters of the blood of the cows and improved their health but did not affect the chemical composition of their milk. In group E, the yield of milk, protein and fat was higher, and no cases of lameness or metabolic diseases were recorded.

Based on follicle number and testosterone concentration results, light flashes scheduled as biomittent light may be an economical alternative to continuous light for managing Rhode Island Red hens without harmfully influencing their physiological response, healthy traits, behavior and welfare. So, a light flash schedule of a 20 min : 40 min light period during 20–36 weeks of age is suggested for further experiments to confirm the economic and production benefits for the farming of breeding hens.

There was a statistically significant increase in inbreeding coefficient between 1997–2021. Ewe birth rank, dam birth rank, first litter size, and first lambing interval are significantly associated with ewe reproductive performance up to the fourth year of life. Precise prediction of ewe reproductive performance using the early predictors is impossible due to the low R2 predicted. The value of the lower threshold of the 95 % prediction interval might be useful in making selection decisions.

ETD was developed by combining teat dipping application and an electrical field stimulation technique on teats. The aim of this paper was to evaluate semen parameters from Czech Fleckvieh bulls used in artificial insemination (AI) in the Fleckvieh population. We analyzed 1029 samples from 46 Fleckvieh bulls from one AI station. Semen from the bulls was collected once a week, which is not usual in other AI stations. We also assessed sperm quality parameters of ejaculate before freezing and after thawing. The ejaculate parameters were evaluated in relation to the collection season and the age of the bulls.

This study aimed to understand the effects of adding low-dose oxytocin hormone into ram semen on the pregnancy rate and reproductive efficiency of sheep. A total of 53 out of 122 Chios ewes were inseminated with oxytocin hormone content, and successful pregnancy was achieved 90.56 % of them. In examination of the pregnancy rate, one of the indicators of reproductive performance, the difference between the groups is statistically significant (p = 0.046; p ≤ 0.05).

Factors such as genotype, sex, type of birth, maternal age, weaning age and birth weight must be considered in evaluation of pre- and post-weaning growth traits. Myostatin mutation was introduced to native Turkish breed Ramlıç by marker-assisted introgression (MAI). The mutation has a positive effect on ultrasonographic carcass traits in crosses. Lambs with myostatin tended to have deeper longissimus muscle and good carcass characteristics, and they may be recommendable for Turkish farmers.

Short summary
This study aimed to reveal the effects of birth weight (BW), 6-month live weight (LW6), and 12-month LW (LW12) on the first lactation milk yield and reproduction characteristics and to determine the non-genetic factors affecting these traits of Anatolian buffaloes in Amasya Province. The effect of growth traits on the first calving age (FCA) of the LW12 group was significant (P = 0.036).
