We present a novel study of the effect of bta-miR-33a on lipid metabolism in bovine mammary epithelial cells (BMECs). The correlation between bta-miR-33a and target gene ELOVL6 is also verified by a luciferase reporter assay. We show that bta-miR-33a directly inhibits the expression of ELOVL6 in BMECs, altering the mRNA expression of relative genes. This suggest that bta-miR-33a regulates lipid metabolism by targeting ELOVL6, which might be a potential molecular marker of milk fat composition.

This publication aims to describe the physiology of the mammary gland and its immune mechanisms and to approximate their connection with potential mastitis resistance genes. It describes various options for mastitis elimination and focuses on genetic selection and a closer specification of resistance genes to mastitis.

This study aimed to determine the effect of fenugreek seed supplementation on milk yield and milk quality characteristics in dairy goats. The goats' milk yield was not affected by fenugreek seed supplementation, whereas an increased milk fat content and decreased serum cholesterol and triglyceride level were observed. Fenugreek seed supplementation increased the oleic acid, elaidic acid, and arachidonic acid concentrations and changed the volatile compounds found in milk.

The effect of STEAP4 (six-transmembrane epithelial antigen of the prostate 4) on goat adipocyte differentiation is unclear. We cloned the goat STEAP4 gene based on the Jianzhou Da’er goat and analyzed its properties and its expression in tissues and adipocytes; further, the positive effect on the expression of subcutaneous adipocytes was obvious. This study will provide a basis for elucidating the biological function of the STEAP4 gene in goat and provide a reference for goat molecular breeding.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of concentrate-based feeding (CF) and artificial pasture-based grazing (APG) management systems on milk yield, fatty acid, nutritional indices, and milk physicochemical characteristics of Awassi ewes.

Three-way crossbreeding was performed with Australian White, Dorper, and Charollais as terminal male parents and elite F1 hybrids of Australian × Han, Dorper × Han, and Charollais × Han as female parents. Based on the growth of three-way crossbred and Small-tailed Han lambs as well as the effects of CLPG, the offspring of male Australian White and female Charollais × Han showed apparent heterosis, and the individuals with the T allele had improved body weight and body size.

Piglet losses in pig farming remain a concern and need to be addressed through the implementation of new sustainable breeding and management strategies. Indeed, piglets are particularly vulnerable in the first days of life. This review provides an overview of the current knowledge on piglet responses during adaptation to life outside the uterus, which is particularly important for improving the vitality of newborn piglets and animal welfare in pig production in various farming systems.

We show that Staphylococcus aureus isolates obtained from cow milk at the stage of subclinical mastitis were resistant to antibiotics used to treat mastitis. The ability to form biofilms increases the opportunity for the spread of multidrug-resistant strains. S. aureus isolates carried resistance genes, most encoding resistance to β-lactams and tetracyclines. S. aureus in raw milk poses a potential risk of developing foodborne infections and spread of antibiotic resistance between species.

IPB-D1 chickens are the result of a cross between Indonesian local chickens and broilers. They have the potential to produce new female lines with egg production ranging from 50–60 %. The results found that the single-nucleotide polymorphism association analysis of egg production showed that the point mutation g.8052T > C had a significant effect on the egg production of IPB-D1 chickens, with potential for marker-assisted selection for the characteristics of egg production in IPB-D1 chickens.
