DGAT1 influences milk yield and quality. Prior studies had limitations: small sample sizes, no environmental effects, and poor lactation records. Our study of 1104 Holstein Friesian and Jersey cows used polymerase chain reaction–restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) and Sanger sequencing for genotyping. We evaluate genotypic and allelic frequencies, population genetics, and phenotypic effects. Our findings offer more reliable interpretations at both phenotypic and genotypic levels.

This study on Yanbian yellow cattle, known for their quality meat, examined fat from various body regions to understand differences in fat content and gene activity. We found 16 different fats in abdominal tissue, with unique fats in subcutaneous and other tissues. Kidney fat cells were larger than those in other areas. Gene activity varied significantly, with different genes being the most active in various tissues. 

This study assessed the effects of incorporating underutilized bitter vetch and sorghum grains on the performance of local goats. While growth parameters were unaffected, sorghum grains lowered carcass mesenteric fat and increased back lightness. Regarding meat quality, sorghum decreased ash, C18:2 n-6, and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), while bitter vetch decreased protein but increased C18:3 n-3. Bitter vetch and sorghum grains can be incorporated into fattening diets for goat kids.

Overall, supplementing quail diets with selenium-enriched yeast (SY) at 3.5 mg kg^-1 led to improved growth, health, and selenium content in eggs and meat, indicating its potential as a beneficial dietary additive.

Rabbit meat is popular in European and other countries. China is a major producer of rabbit meat; Laiwu black and Minxinan black rabbits are local black meat rabbit breeds used in China. In this study, Laiwu black rabbits, Minxinan black rabbits and Hyla commercial rabbits were selected for meat quality testing. The results illustrated that both Laiwu black and Minxinan black rabbits have certain advantages in terms of nutritional indicators while also having good meat colour and flavour.
