The results of analyses of hematological and biochemical blood serum markers demonstrate that the fast-growing FG turkeys, compared to the slow-growing SG birds and their reciprocal crosses (SF and FS), exhibit a stronger response to stress induced by pre- and post-slaughter handling. Among the crosses, more susceptible to stress stimuli are the SF turkeys, which is confirmed by a higher concentration of TP H, a lower concentration of L, and resultantly a higher H / L ratio in their blood serum.

A study was conducted on the effect of separated manure as bedding material on milk quality as manifested in the somatic cell count. Cows were maintained in a loose barn in cubicles bedded with fresh separated cattle manure (SCM) with 40 % solids content. Analyses were conducted on 242 primiparous Black-and-White PHF cows in the course of a 305-day lactation. Conducted analyses showed that SCM as bedding in cow cubicles had no effect on somatic cell counts in milk of primiparous cows.

The main contribution of our paper is the identification of several SNPs of the SIRT1 gene in beef cattle and their relationships to carcass traits such as weight and meat percentage. We believe that this contribution is theoretically and practically relevant because beef cattle are bred to maximize carcass quality, but traits that lead to carcass quality are difficult to assess in vivo. We provide a method to select individuals for breeding based on genetic propensity for meat production.

The influences of breed, sex and age on seasonal fluctuations in haematological variables (HVs) of goat kids were evaluated. Breed and age variations in HVs of goats were more pronounced during the hot-dry season. The seasonal fluctuations in HVs were more dramatic in kids of Sahel goats, and in younger and male kids of both breeds. Haematological changes induced by the cold-dry season were clearly distinct from those of hot-dry and rainy seasons.
